Anton N. Sidawy, MD, MPH Named President,
Vascular Disease Foundation

Dr. Anton N. Sidawy was elected president of the Vascular Disease Foundation (VDF) board of directors at their meeting held on March 6 in Chicago, IL. Dr. Sidawy is chief of surgical service at the Veterans Affair Medical Center in Washington, D.C. and serves as professor of surgery at both Georgetown and George Washington University Schools of Medicine, in Washington, D.C. He is the director of the Vascular Surgery Residency Program at Georgetown University and the Washington Hospital Center.

Dr. Sidawy has been a member of VDF’s board of directors since June of 2003 and has served previously on the communications committee to ensure that VDF’s medical messages are educational and science based. In his new role as president, Dr. Sidawy will continue to lead efforts to increase awareness of vascular disease to the over 40 million American’s affected by vascular disease in the U.S.

“Dr. Sidawy’s commitment and dedication to improving the health care of those affected by vascular disease has been important,” said Sheryl Benjamin VDF executive director. “In his new role as president, he will lead VDF through the current health care challenges to ensure that those that need vascular disease education receive it. We are honored to have him serve as our new president.”

Dr. Sidawy was recently named editor-in-chief of the Journal of Vascular Surgery. He is on the editorial boards of several journals and is the author of numerous peer-reviewed articles, multiple book chapters and two text books, The Basic Science of Vascular Disease and Diabetic Foot, Lower Extremity Arterial Disease and Limb Salvage. He also served as associate editor of the Rutherford Textbook of Vascular Surgery. He currently serves on the Vascular Surgery Board of the American Board of Surgery.

Dr. Sidawy has a special interest in health policy issues as they relate to vascular surgery and has served for many years on Health Policy Committee of the Society for Vascular Surgery. He finished his vascular surgery fellowship at Boston University Hospital and earned a Masters of Public Health in Health Care Administration from George Washington University.
