Joseph Howard Buffum

Joseph Howard Buffum died Aug. 6, 2005, at the age of 85 in Palm Springs, Calif. He was born in Berkeley, Calif., in 1920 to Howard Ames Buffum of Chicago and Nancy (Young) Buffum of Scotland.

Joe served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was stationed in Hawaii and the East Coast. Joe married Virginia Wicks in 1946 shortly after the war ended.

Joe worked as an Engineer for Pacific Telephone in San Francisco for 30 years with a brief assignment in New York in 1961-62.

Joe was active in the Pacific Bell Pioneer Club and was a Ham operator from a young age. Joe was also registered with the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution. After living in the Bay area for 30 years, Joe and Virginia retired in Palm Springs, Calif., in 1976.

Joe is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Virginia, his son James H. Buffum (wife Lori) of Sugarland, Texas; daughter Nancy Anderson (husband Ken) of Chico, Calif., and five grandchildren, Ariel, Daniel, Rachael, Rebekah, and Anna. Joe will be missed terribly by his family.

We can all overhear him saying, this is W6TKO signing off for now.

Published in the Chico Enterprise-Record on 8/11/2005.

Dear Ginny and Family,
