Sandek Surbek Memorial Fund
This fund was established in November 2008 by his daugher Sandra Surbek.
Sandek Surbek - October 20, 1942 - February 16, 2008
Sandek Surbek, passed away very tragically on February 16, 2008. For over 12 years he suffered from heart disease, diabetes and eventually developed peripheral arterial disease which was not diagnosed until it was too late. This disease greatly affected his ability to walk and initially very slowly atrophied any muscle tissue he had in his leg. The last two years it quickly advanced, causing him great pain that no medication could control. He had numerous blood clots resulting in emergency surgeries and eventually gangrene in his feet.
Throughout his suffering we desperately attempted to get a proper diagnosis and treatment. His only option at that point was amputation but sadly he was not able to make this decision.
My father was 65 years old, his greatest joy were his grandchildren, Nina, Pascal and Arianna pictured here with him, the last photo taken of my father. He left behind his wife Marija, and two daughters, Gordana and Sandra as well as his grandchildren previously mentioned. Dad, we miss you every moment and I promise to find some good in your suffering. Our thoughts are with you always, and with all the families who may be facing a similar situation.
